I collaborated with this family on a concept I had for a session. I was inspired by another fantastic photographer to capture a family at a skate park. But instead of just using it as a backdrop, I wanted to make sure it fit the family & expressed part of who they are.

Jacquie had hired me for a studio session, and while we got some gems, the kids weren’t really into it. So when I was taking a course and needed some practice for an assignment, I asked her if they’d give me another shot with a more documentary style session.

And guess what? I think the kids secretly loved it. They got to play freely for most of the time before a few loosely directed portraits at the end.

Plus, I bribed them with donuts.
